I can tell from the first visit if a patient will do exceptionally well with me or if it will be a struggle.

My ideal patient has a "glass half full" positive attitude, has supportive friends and family, and has decided to get well.

But the reality is that if you've had difficult health problems for years, you may not fit this description!

A lot of built-up frustration and discouragement can be reduced by a more complete understanding of your body, your condition, and how you got into the state you find yourself. Add to this a logical plan to recover your health, a positive, empathetic results-driven practitioner to work with and you may find that your attitude becomes closer to my "ideal patient."

I've found that a lifetime of medical treatment often produces an expectation of quick, easy results. "Take this drug, your heartburn and reflux will be better in hours or days." Except that the PPI drug you're taking will result in long-term mental and bone health issues, and you can only take it for a relatively short time.

When you come to me for a permanent resolution to the deficiencies, stresses and damage that brought about the problem in the first place, it's going to take longer than a few days, and you'll have to do more than just pop a pill.

It's all about perception. A patient who understands how their body heals and the length of time and effort that takes will be positive and happy with their ongoing results. A patient who hasn't moved off the "medical model" of treatment will be unhappy and impatient.

Flexibility of ideas, willingness to work with your body and allow it to heal, and maintaining a positive viewpoint are key to ending your health problems forever.
